[ SCENE ONE. Henrique finds that being outside of Brazil is a fulfilling experience. Sure, there were some downs, but that doesn't change the fact that ever since his college application was accepted, he's having the time of his life.
Guess the whole "college is the best four years of your life" thing was true. Then again, he's still in his second year, so he's got a couple more years to go. (Unless he fucks up somewhere but he tries not to waste his scholarship, really.)
Cut to the present in which Henrique and his roommate are out and about on a Sunday and notices the sudden and in-your-face presence of flowers, chocolates, and hearts. ]
Is there a special occasion? Or a festival?
[ His accent hasn't completely vanished, but it's subtle enough to say he's definitely not from around here. ]
[ it's sunday and a holiday tomorrow and linus has pretty much allowed his homework to fuck off for the weekend. it's his second year and he's already feeling the senioritis and the fact that he's a bio major doesn't help at all. to be honest, the only good thing about this semester is his roommate. there's something really nice about waking up in the morning and the first thing he sees is smooth definition of henri's bare back. also his accent is really cute and really hot? jesus christ.
just as he's trying to remind himself that henri may in fact be a virgin and he shouldn't be the first one to take his v-card, henri says something and linus looks up. he only just noticed the flowers and hearts, turning his phone on to check the date. ]
Oh shit, it's Valentine's day already? Damn.
[ that means every single food place is probably packed. fml. ]
[ Valentines day? What is— oh, that day. Well, Henrique isn't that unfamiliar but it takes some getting used to. Last year, February 14 fell on a school day so he was pretty oblivious to what was happening (and he really wanted to finish his reading assignments). Today, though... Today was supposed to be lunch. ]
Like Dia dos Namorados, only in winter! [ February is still Winter, right... ] There are so many decorations all over. I wonder if there would be samba.

[ a young girl approaches them with a basket of multi-colored roses, handing linus a coral colored one and then skipping off to the next unsuspecting person. he twirls the stem between his thumb and forefinger before presenting it with a flourish to henri. ]
[ Four months earlier, indeed, as he laughs in response when Linus literally has a rose in his hand. ]
Why not? [ Just gonna take that rose with no idea what it means while also slinging his arm around Linus like it's no big deal. ] Anyway, my friend, let us go back on our quest for food!
[ and linus is hungry for the d, but that's par for the course at this point. of course henri wouldn't get the rose color reference, but it's not like linus knows the language of flowers himself, so no harm and no foul. ]
Might haveta get take-out, [ he sighs, not even bothered by henri's arm around him. linus was always a physical person by nature, and he has no problems with ignoring people's personal space especially with the people he's comfortable with. but he does take out his phone again, bringing up some food app and scrolling through potential restaurants. ]
[ LAUGHS LIKE A NERD he works out at home ok, trying to be fit even though what with academics trying to be more consuming of his time and effort ]
Because they all go to my brain! [ or his dick....... nah, i'm joking ] And psh, I am showing signs of, what do you call them? Love handles? [ in which he lets go of Linus and decides to repeatedly pat his belly like a drum. you can hear semi-soft noises of his palms hitting said stomach. ok so there may be some abs in there, but he's not a show-off ] See?
I dunno what you're talking about, [ he says while attempting to pinch henri's side. ] I'm not seeing any kind of handles here.

[ he's chuckling in response to henri's laughter, grin lopsided as he pulls his fingers away. keep it in your pants, genius. he doesn't even notice people looking at them, too accustomed to the usual stares he gets from the wild color of his hair. he ends up bumping his shoulder against henri's though as they near the restaurant. ]

[ there's no bite to his words, except for the grin on his face that's usually there when he's giving someone shit. mostly, he just likes making henri laugh. ]
[ does anyone in america even know what feijoada is, is what he wants to know. in any case, he's laughing at the expression on henri's face, leaving him to wallow in his misery as he goes to place their order for take out. around them, the restaurant is buzzing with life; it's as busy as he expected it to be.
he claps a hand on henri's shoulder while they wait for their food, the most serious expression on his face. ]
